Biography

Stella Rezgo was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, while she was still an infant her family had relocated to Moscow, Russia where she was raised.  She began performing and writing her own songs at a young age, never forgetting her Assyrian roots she had made a career as a female lead singer touring Europe with a band of talented musicians and an Assyrian dance ensemble called ‘Shamiram’  in 1994.

Inspired by the tour’s success she eagerly continued to work on her first album and simultaneously worked as a host at the Assyrian radio station "Kalah Atyraya" in Moscow from 1994-1996 in a team with a great educator Marona Arsanis:

Stella immigrated to Canada in 1996 where she currently resides. Upon moving she has continued her musical career.  Her music was heard in the United States where it touched the heart of the Assyrian Community. Following her popularity in the United States she was then invited to perform her famous song “Bet-Nahrain  Gu Khulmani” at the Bet-Nahrain Cultural Society in Modesto, California.  Shortly after, she published her second album “Wardeh D'Omta” in the Assyrian language.

Feeling blessed with the gift God has given to her, she feels compelled to give back to her community. She often assists the local Assyrian community and the Evangelic church with their many music projects. Numerous CDs were recorded within these communities where Stella can be heard as the lead vocalist, she can also be heard doing backup vocals which enhance and compliment the beautiful Assyrian Gospel songs written by Ashour Aivas. (To listen to some samples please go to the “Assyrian Gospel Music” page of this website.)Stella has a lot of live performances under her belt, some of these include numerous concerts at the Assyrian Gospel church in Toronto and Mississauga, as well as a live concert at the World Vision Centre in 2006.

Being raised and deeply influenced by the Russian culture, Stella feels the need to express herself through her songs in the Russian language as well. She began writing songs using lyrics of famous Russian poets, as well as her own poetic compilations and hopes to complete this project in the near future. She is also a part of the Mississauga Russian Cultural Centre where she participates in the theater performances founded by Olga Ikonnikova. She performed and wrote the music to Marina Tsvetayeva’s lyrics which was used as the soundtrack to the video clip “10 Years in 5 minutes”, can be watched at:
